Art Tatum — It’s Only a Paper Moon

Thanks to gullivior for the YouTube

Art Tatum’s version of It’s Only A Paper Moon, is another of the Art Tatum Complete Pablo Solo Masterpieces released in various forms by Norman Granz. This recording was made in 1955 and is cut 7 disc 10 on the Compact Disc edition. This is a somewhat short but tasty work of art by Art Tatum.

The tune It’s Only A Paper Moon was written by Harold Arlen, music, and Yip Harburg and Billy Rose, lyrics. Paul Whiteman Orchestra first recorded it in 1933, with Peggy Healey. It was originally written for an unsuccessful stage play and a movie that is also¬† long forgotten. The song became popular with hit versions by Ella Fitzgerald and Nat Cole after World War II.
