Fats on Friday — Tiger Rag

Thanks to OnlyJazzHQ

This performance of Tiger Rag was a live performance by a pick up band on a radio show, in this case the “Martin Block Swing Show” WNEW Radio-Radio Broadcast from October 10, 1938, in New York City. The group included Louis Armstrong, trumpet; Bud Freeman, tenor sax; Jack Teagarden, trombone; Al Casey, guitar; Slick Jones, drums; and Fats Waller, piano. Clearly, Louis was the star here. Tiger Rag was originally a New Orleans traditional jazz tune. I’ll post Jelly Roll Morton’s piano solo of that version of the Tiger Rag on Sunday. Tomorrow I’ll post Art Tatum’s version.
