Fats on Friday Reprise– Love Me Or Leave Me

Thanks to James McEwan for the YouTube

I have no doubt played Fats Waller’s solo piano version of Love Me Or Leave Me before. The song was written in 1928 by Walter Donaldson and Gus Kahn. Fats recorded this solo version in 1929. It is one of my all time favorite records. This is the stride bass piano idiom at its finest. Note the twist where he plays the melody in the left hand and comps with the right. All time great song, great performance, great piano player. As Fats would say, “who could ask for anything more?”
