Art Tatum — Somebody Loves Me

Thanks again to gullivior for the You Tube and the painting

Somebody Loves Me is a great song. Music was written by George Gershwin, words by Ballard MacDonald and Buddy DeSylva and published in 1924. It was first featured in George White’s Scandals, a musical. According to the link, It has been recorded by a Who’s Who of mid-Twentieth Century popular music and even by one Opera diva.

This version is from Disc Six, cut 1 of Art Tatum’s The Complete Pablo Solo Masterpieces. No credit for the painting, but it captures the mood of the song. Tatum swings on this one. Art Tatum never ceases to amaze me; it’s like this river of music just flows out of him every time he sat at the piano.
