Yesterday a 7.9 Earthquake in the Ocean near Sumatra

An earthquake struck yesterday in the Indian Ocean about 500 miles West South West of Padang, Indonesia.  It struck at 12:49 PM UTC, 4:49 U.S. Pacific Standard Time.  It was initially thought to be over 8.0 on the Richter Scale, but was revised to 7.9.  There was no report of a Tsunami warning, but then back when the Banda Aech  earthquake struck, there was no Tsunami warning system in place.  We’ll have to await further news on that if there is any.
